Edith Piaf famously stated “…singing is a way of escaping. It’s another world. I’m no longer on earth…”. In the closing program of the 2024 Season, we invite you to escape the hustle and bustle of life; open your hearts and mind … and sing! Featuring the magnificent voice of Australian tenor, Andrew Goodwin, the program will feature reimagining's of cherished works by history’s greatest songsmiths: Dowland, Purcell, Handel, Britten, Korngold, as well as adaptations of the poetry of Goethe and Shakespeare.
With the Festive Season in full swing, gather your nearest and dearest, and take an afternoon to share with others the wonder of song, the spirit of togetherness and the joy of music. Following the performance, join the musicians for a glass of bubbles and mince tarts.

Andrew Goodwin has appeared with opera companies and orchestras in Europe, Asia and Australia including the Bolshoi Opera, Gran Theatre Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, La Scala Milan, Opera Australia, Pinchgut Opera, Sydney Chamber Opera, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Moscow and Melbourne Chamber Orchestras, and in recital with pianist Daniel de Borah at Wigmore Hall, the Oxford Lieder, Port Fairy and Canberra International Music Festivals.
This year Andrew also returns to Queensland Symphony for Beethoven Symphony No. 9, to Sydney Symphony for the Britten Serenade for tenor and horn and to sing Mime in Das Rheingold, and to Melbourne Symphony for Messiah. Andrew will also feature at the Canberra International and Sanguine Estate Music Festivals, at Brisbane Festival in Britten’s War Requiem, with the Australia Ensemble at UNSW, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, in recital in Brisbane and at Ukaria, and with the vocal ensemble, Avé.
Recent engagements have included Mozart’s Requiem with Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’; Messiah with Canberra Symphony; Lysander, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Adelaide Festival); Jacquino, Fidelio (West Australian Symphony Orchestra); Nadir, The Pearlfishers (State Opera South Australia); Diary of one who disappeared and Rape of Lucretia (Sydney Chamber Opera); Artaxerxes title role (Pinchgut Opera).

Internationally acclaimed guitarist Vladimir Gorbach has captivated audiences around the world, performing in Europe, China, Japan, Australia, and the United States. His remarkable journey as a musician began in Germany, where he served as a soloist for the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation's "Live Music Now" outreach program.
Vladimir's musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades, including victories in prestigious guitar competitions and awards in Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Greece, and the USA. Notably, his triumph at the 2011 Guitar Foundation of America Concert Artist Competition led to a 50-city concert tour across the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
His performances have graced renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo. Beyond the concert stage, Vladimir is a sought-after presence on television, radio programs, and podcasts worldwide.
Vladimir's dedication to his craft extends to music publication, with his arrangements for guitar published by MelBay (USA) and Les Productions d’Oz (Canada). Additionally, his recordings have been featured on Naxos, the world's largest classical music label.
Since 2015, Vladimir has called Australia his home, and he imparts his knowledge and expertise as a Senior Lecturer and Program Leader for Bachelor of Music (Performance) at The University of Sydney, Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Violinist Ike See joined the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2013. A three time first prize winner at the Singapore National Violin Competition, he has performed as a soloist with ensembles including the ACO, Adelaide and Singapore Symphony Orchestras.
Growing up in Singapore, Ike began lessons at the age of four with Sylvia Khoo and later studied with Qian Zhou, Head of Strings at the Yong View Top Conservatory of Music. He then relocated to Philadelphia to attend the Curtis Institute of music, where he completed a Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of Joseph Silverstein and Pamela Frank.
A passionate chamber music, Ike has enjoyed the privilege of leading ensembles and orchestra and performing at festival internationally. He studied chamber music with members of the Guarneri, Orion and Vermeer Quartets, and has collaborated with musicians such as Roberto Diaz, James Dunham, Pamela Frank, Karen Gomyo, Susan Graham, Clive Greensmith, Gary Hoffman and Anthony McGill. Prior to joining the ACO, Ike was Associate Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Ike is proud to play on the first instrument he can truly call his own, made for him in 2021 by Brooklyn-based luthier Sam Zygmuntowicz.

Lerida has carved out a rich career as a chamber musician, orchestral player and educator. Currently Assistant Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Lerida is a founding member of the Tinalley String Quartet, first prize winners of the 9th Banff International String Quartet Competition. With Tinalley, Lerida has toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada and the United States and released critically acclaimed recordings with DECCA Australia and ABC Classics. Lerida has performed as a guest Principal with the Tasmanian, Adelaide and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has toured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Australian World Orchestra. Awarded a Doctor of Music Arts in 2003, Lerida has studied at the International Menuhin Academy; International Holland Music Sessions; Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada; International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, UK; Yale Summer School of Music and Stanford University. Lerida plays on a 1793 Joseph and Antonius Gagliano violin.

Justin Williams holds the position of Assistant Principal Viola with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and is the founding violist of the Tinalley String Quartet (TSQ). Justin has performed as Principal Viola with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO), Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Australia ProArte.
As a member of Tinalley String Quartet, Justin shared in the experience of winning the 2005 Australian Chamber Music Competition and the 9th Banff International String Quartet Competition. With TSQ he has toured extensively throughout Australia, Europe and North America and has released several recordings with Move Records, Decca Australia and ABC Classic.
As a composer, Justin released his ‘Movement for String Quartet’ in 2020, which has since been performed throughout Australia and in Italy by the Australian String Quartet. In 2022, Justin was the recipient of a Sydney International Piano Competition Composing the Future juror’s prize for his ‘Three Intermezzi’ for solo piano, premiered by Daniel de Borah. In 2023, his set of songs ‘Three Pieces for String Quartet and Voice: Love – Despair – Hope’, was premiered at the Blackheath Chamber Music Festival, and his First Symphony, jointly commissioned by QSO and SSO, was premiered by QSO under the direction of Maestro Umberto Clerici as part of the Brisbane Festival.

Eliza Sdraulig is a Sydney-based cellist originally from Melbourne, Australia. Eliza regularly performs as a guest musician with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She has studied at The University of Melbourne, New England Conservatory (Boston, USA) and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). Eliza was an Emerging Artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2018 and a Fellow with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2019.
An avid solo, chamber and orchestral musician, Eliza has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and The University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She is a founding member of the Chroma Quartet and has performed at various festivals such as the Mimir Chamber Music Festival (USA), Australian Festival of Chamber Music and Huntington Festival.
